WHY USE US ?

I am committed to ensuring all the e-waste I access does not end up in landfill or in third world countries. I prefer to refurbish as my first option and if this proves impossible, I will recycle the entire unit.
Many of the components used are harmful to the environment and human health if not recycled or disposed of correctly and that's why Idlecomputa is working closely with RCN.
We choose to work with strategic recycling partners, whose innovative methods allow around 99% of compounds and metals to be reclaimed.
Idlecomputa will see to it that all environmental concerns are met and all obligations are satisfied, ensuring that our customers reputations are not at risk.
RCN is the only recycler Idlecomputa deals with which has developed a process whereby all of the materials used to make CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors is recycled for reuse by many companies, and diverted from landfill.
All steel is recycled locally in Hawke's Bay and any components required for community and school projects are readily available.
Lead - CRT Tubes & Solder.
Arsenic - Older CRT Tubes.
Selenium - PCBs & Power Supplies.
Polybrominated biphenyls - Added to plastics as a flame retardant.
Antimony trioxide - Added as flame retardant.
Cadmium - PCBs & Semi-conductors.
Chromium - Corrosion protection in steel.
Cobalt - Added to steel for structure & Magnetivity.
Mercury - In switches & Housing.
I One of the best ways to get clean recycling is simple: just ask questions. A reputable recycler should be able to tell you where hardware is sent; and if the company exports. The recycler should also be able to tell you how it handles data destruction; you'll want the recycler to wipe hard drive for you so any personal information doesn't end up where it doesn't belong. If you are donating your equipment for reuse, ask if equipment is checked before it is passed on for donation and if the company only ships non-working equipment.
If the answers to any of these questions are "We don't know" or "We can't tell you" it may be time to send your equipment elsewhere!
The two pictures above are of a third world city where villagers live with contaminated water supplies. Cities like this receive container loads of e-waste from developed countries who can afford to move their e-waste problem onto poorer nations. The pictures depict the extremely hazardous practice of burning off PCB's known as circuit boards to recover valuable metals like copper, gold and silver while pumping highly toxic gases into the surrounding environment.
WARNING !
There are many companies providing recycling services.
Beware many are not true recyclers.
Many simple pull what value they can from the old & obsolete equipment (Aluminium & Copper) and then just dump the rest into landfill.
This is NOT our practice.
We break the units down into their separate components (Recoverable & Hazardous).
We send the recovered materials to companies to re-use, which also off-sets the cost of processing the hazardous components in a safe, secure and environmentally sustainable manner.
